Ellen and Taff’s Old Edwards Inn wedding was a favorite of mine for the intimacy of it. Family and close friends gathered for a small ceremony which was held on the lawn above the pool, overlooking the surrounding mountains of Highlands, NC. An elegant reception was held on a small tented terrace. Each delicate floral centerpiece was encircled by full table settings for each of Ellen and Taff’s guests.
I love how I met Ellen. I met her through Carolina Poodle Rescue. Ellen fosters rescue poodles. At the time she and Taff were planning their wedding, Ellen came across my information and portfolio through email correspondence I was having with CPR during the adoption of my standard poodle, Maisy. Instant bond. A sweet moment at the wedding came when I realized that about five other people at this intimate celebration were also standard poodle adopters.
The Old Edwards Inn and Spa is a special venue. I’ve been to a lot of five star hotels and luxury spas in my life and I was surprised to find a small boutique venue in the mountains of North Carolina that measured up to that standard of quality. At first it seems like an unassuming place, like just another cute hotel on the corner of a small tourist town, but once you enter and experience what it has to offer you can’t help but start to count all of the rich details, noting everything down to the wax stamp on the toilet paper. Pretty soon you realize you’re in a tapestry of luxury and if you’re photographing a wedding, all you can do is wish that in your next life you could come back as a guest.
